Connection, and Creativity in the Digital Age
Embracing Positivity Through Blogging
Why write a blog in 2025? People don’t read them anymore, right? Well, that could indeed be true in some circumstances, but in this world of instant gratification and YouTube shorts, there are still people who read blogs. In fact, the latest statistics show that around 83% of internet users still read blogs, and that number is growing.
In a world that is filled with negativity and bad news, bloggers have an increased possibility – indeed a responsibility – to bring positive and uplifting messages out there into the world. Someone once said that the pen is mightier than the sword. Never has this been more true, and through blogging we all have an opportunity to share, support each other, and spread positivity. Every word we write is a key to connecting with someone who just might find what they are looking for.
Furthermore, AI is reading everything on the web. Large language models (LLMs) use what is written on the web to train themselves how to respond and “communicate” like humans. AI is not going to stop; its potential for profit is going to outweigh any attempt to halt or restrict its development. Through blogging, we can add to the knowledge base it is built upon and through positive blogging, one might hope that we can add some “humanity” into its learning algorithms.
Building Meaningful Connections
When I first started -why write a blog- and began the process of writing my blog, roughly two weeks ago, I was coming from a pretty dark place. I was frustrated with work, felt useless, and lacked a sense of personal purpose. I started to write down what I was thinking about and put them into my first post. I also thought about things that interested me and wrote about them also. And I found that through writing, not only did I begin to feel better but there were people out there who actually appreciated what I had to say. I started building connections.
-
- I got messages thanking me for what I was writing.
-
- I felt more engaged with groups I had joined that shared my interests.
-
- I was beginning to see positivity replace negativity.
-
- I was building meaningful connections.
Spreading Positivity and Inspiration
I do not consider myself to be an expert in any field or a preacher that instructs people how to live their lives in order to appease some higher power. I am simply sharing my experiences as they are happening. Not with a goal of saying “this is what you have to do” or “do this and that will be better.” My goal was and is simply to share, and if someone reads what I am writing and finds it inspiring or uplifting, then great. I don’t know what my goals are by writing this blog other than my enjoyment of the process, but if I can achieve the following things, then I’ll be happy.
-
- Let people know that others feel the same.
-
- Give a level of inspiration.
-
- Encourage community and sharing.
-
- Get feedback – good or bad – it all helps.
Personal Growth and Fulfillment
This is a strange one. It has never been my intention to achieve either of these through writing. Well, maybe fulfillment. It’s true that I enjoy the process of writing, of putting my thoughts out there. It’s a kind of release. One that is strangely satisfying. Yes, I could write it all down in a diary. Why write a blog then right? well in a way the blog is just that, a diary, a collection of dated thoughts, but a public one.
It will also serve as a record for my kids to know me a little after I am gone – which is hopefully a long way down the road. But the thing is, for me, writing this blog is a way of getting things off my chest and it works. For those who have not tried it, I strongly recommend it. Or you can go to the gym, whatever works for you.
Expanding Your Reach and Influence
Influencer: that is a word I detest. Not for the word itself, but for what it has been used to represent. You see ‘influencers’ all over the place. For a day job I am a project manager in a digital agency and we often build solutions to be used by or to promote ‘influencers’.
What is an influencer? In recent years, the explosive growth of short form social media and its accessibility – especially to the youth market – has given rise to this new occupation. People see aspects of themselves in influencer lifestyles and tend to want to purchase or invest themselves in the things they promote. This has come to pass as people trust less direct advertisements and more the opinion of people they sympathize with, who share the same thoughts and aspirations, who are living their best life. And advertisers jump on this new channel to show their goods and get people interested in them. Honestly, there is nothing inherently wrong with it, but oftentimes it seems quite shallow.
Do I consider myself to be an influencer – NO – well, why write a blog then if you are not an influencer? Well, you dont have to be an influencer to want to share your thoughts with the world do you?. In a way I hope I do have some influence one day. Maybe it’s the only way to continue my mission to spread a positive, common sense message. Cheeky insert: share my blog (smiley face).
Enjoying the Satisfaction of Shouting – Blessed are the Cheesemakers.
Alright, I admit it, I check Google Analytics to see how this blog is reaching the world, who wouldn’t? I look into the figures and I take a certain satisfaction by seeing that it has shown up in ‘x’ amount of searches, that it has been shared, that some people seem to think what I write is worth something. It feels good when it goes well. It does not feel so good when it goes bad, but who cares, right?
My satisfaction comes from writing all this down, from getting it off my chest and if people like what I write then (of course) it makes me happy. But it’s the cathartic feeling of doing it that satisfies me. I have a soap box to stand on and share my madness with the world. “Blessed are the cheesemakers,” I shout as the gathered masses look at each other in confusion. But those who get it, get it and that is all I want. By the way, if “blessed are the cheesemakers” made you smile, then you are my type of person.
A word of caution
Up until this point it has been all positive, but I do need to drop some info in here. Blogging is by no means easy, there is a hugely competitive market out there and you will not see traction straight away. You need to work at it, be more inventive, have things to write about, and, most importantly, don’t be afraid to drop a video in there or link to your own videos. An online presence in 2025 is more than just the written word.
Like it or not short and long form video, podcasts and competing media are all vying for the attention of your readers. When you write a blog in 2025, you need to respect that and provide options.
Conclusion: Your Voice Matters in 2025
So, why write a blog in 2025 – why would you do it? The answer is simple.
-
- I reach out and make contact with other like-minded people.
-
- They get to know they are not the only cuckoo in the nest.
-
- I enjoy the process – well, not creating the site, that was a pain in the arse but the writing is fun.
-
- I might let people see the lighter side in life and not take themselves too seriously.
-
- I can write a LOT better than I can play piano or create in any other way.
-
- It makes me feel good to know I might have ‘influenced’ someone’s day.
-
- The voices in my head are making me do it.
I hope you have enjoyed the read and appreciate the time you have taken. If after reading all of this, you still crave a video on the subject, I have included below a nice overview from YouTube that might be of interest to you. Although it does not focus on the subject ‘why write a blog in 2025’ , It is by Neil Patel, a well respected expert in the digital field and he has some interesting things to say.Be safe, have fun, and most of all, take care of yourself.
